About GoodWatts Devices

In General

Our family of monitoring and control devices are just the beginning. We envision a future where any appliance in your home or office can communicate with the GoodWatts network via RF or Power Line Carrier. The more devices that are added to the network, the more you can monitor and save on power.

Wireless RF Thermostat

Since the primary energy consuming device in the average home is the heating and cooling system, we start with the monitoring and control of it. Our thermostats help you to understand how and when the energy is being consumed. We then let you put that knowledge to work in a simple, and robust environment that allows you to construct complex control schemes in minutes.

From a demand response point of view, the thermostat is an excellent agent for load reduction programs in customers' homes. Not only can you realize significant load reductions from simply setting the heating or cooling back a few degrees, but you can also communicate to your customers that a control action is taking place. Our studies have shown that the customers like to know when load control is taking place and tend to be very cooperative when they are informed. And, unlike a switch on the compressor outside, customers can easily override the actions if their situation dictates the need to do so.

Load Control Meter

Many of us know there are appliances in our homes that use a lot of power, like water heaters and pool pumps, but we really can't quantify it. The Load Control Meter (LCM) gives you the information you need to comprehend the energy consumption profiles for these appliances that were once a mystery. Most importantly, you can now easily control them based on your family's schedule, or the cost of power, or if your home is heading towards setting a new peak demand level with your utility.

In a demand response environment, these devices are exceptional tools for the utility. They provide real feedback that the load was indeed on, and what power it was drawing at the time of curtailment. They also allow customers to override if necessary and instantly feed that status back to the system as well, thus allowing alternative actions to be taken.
